With lots of pretty pictures and helpful links to tutorials in each and every pattern, your experience knitting a Girly Knits pattern is sure to be awesome! You will also find free YouTube tutorials and my favorite knitting resources here to build on your knitting skills.
You may recognize me as the grand prize winner of the first ever knitting reality competition “The Fiber Factor”! You may also have seen me as a guest on Knitting Daily TV with Vickie Howell in episode #1307 “Boy Meets Girl”, where I talked about how to add feminine touches to your knitting and did a demonstration on how to knit a bow.
Why did I decide to start designing knitting patterns? When I was in college, I had the hardest time finding knitting patterns that I wanted to knit and wear. I wanted to knit a fabulous new sweater that people would ask where I got, a sassy new dress for the next time I went out with my girlfriends, a sparkly knitted bikini because you know, that sounded fun! Amidst my frustration with what was out there I started plotting out my own designs.
Those early days of designing my own knitwear led me to discover my passion for fashion and design. After finishing my undergrad, I moved to NYC where I worked as a professional fashion designer for 15 years, specializing in juniors, girls, and intimate apparel. While designing for a big company was wonderful, I always aspired to have a special line of my own. My first love has always been knitting, and it finally hit me that I needed to be the knitwear designer who I wished existed growing up (and today!) Girly Knits was started in 2011, and is all about fun, fashion, color, humor, and bringing out your girly cuteness!
In 2019 I learned machine knitting over the course of a few weekend workshops at FIT, and I was instantly hooked. Seeing that there was a lack of resources out there for beginner machine knitters, I started to create tutorials and patterns. This led me to decide to pursue a masters in fashion knitwear design at Nottingham Trent University in the UK, where I went on to get married and knit my wedding dress!
I hope you enjoy my designs, all of which you can find on Ravelry and Etsy!
