Questions

Q: Do you sell the items you have patterns for?

A: Unfortunately it’s not very economical to sell hand knitted items with the time it takes to make them.  I’m hoping you will learn to knit so that you can feel the gratification of getting your knit on!  If you really just don’t do the dexterity thing (like my Grandma, she’s always asking me to knit things for her!), I would suggest asking around at your local yarn store to see if they know of anyone who you could commission, or asking a family member who knits!

Q: Can I sell items I make from your patterns?

A: Yes, actually!  If you are the one knitting the pattern, I’m all about helping out the hand crafter.  I just don’t allow the designs to be mass produced, or for you to have someone else make them to then sell.  All I ask is that you give me credit for the design (a link to my site would be great if you are selling the items online) and that you let me know you are doing so – would love to forward you some business since I don’t sell finished items myself and I often get inquiries!

Q: Where do you get inspiration for your designs?  Who are your favorite designers?

A: My favorite designer is Betsey Johnson for her fun, playful, girly style!  My favorite style icon is Katy Perry, for the same reason.

While I’m always flipping through fashion magazines and out bouncing around the shops in NYC, I’m most inspired by yarns!  They usually tell me what they want to be.  I’m also inspired by New York’s stylish 3rd graders, they have the best outfits!

Q: What’s up with knitted lingerie?  Isn’t it itchy?  And like, I don’t get it.

A: Well to be honest, knitted lingerie isn’t all that practical, but it sure is fun to make!  Knitted undies also makes for a wonderful extra layer in the Winter months (think bum beanie!)

Most yarns these days are super soft and feel quite lovely on the skin!  Yarns come in a variety of fiber contents, in all different textures.  My favorites choices for lingerie are the soft and sparkly ones!

Q: Why do your patterns cost money?

A: Designing patterns is a lot of work – it involves lots of knitting and re-knitting, math, spreadsheets, charts, proper phrasing, photography, layout design, and love!  Grading patterns for multiple sizes takes an extra special effort, as each garment I design has a unique fit.  Know that you are getting a thoughtfully crafted pattern, and are supporting me in continuing to offer you knitting awesomeness and fabulous new designs!

Q: Why is this whole site purple?

A: Because I looove purple!  I also love cats, sparkly jewelry, chandeliers, dresses, bows, ruffles, decorative pillows, big mirrors, mannequins, orchids, vintage telephones, pin-up girls, burlesque dancing, fashion photography, and New York City!  Now you know everything!

    Hey there!

This past summer I attempted the “Bow Crazy” top but I didn’t purchase Paton’s Grace (sport weight) yarn because I couldn’t find any. I tried a very thin yarn for babies but the result was that the top was still coming out way too big. Any ideas where I could find Paton’s Grace yarn? I feel like I also used a 4mm circular needle as well (as opposed to 3.5mm) – but would that have really made that big of a difference in the size ratio?

I did gauge and it seemed legit, but maybe I didn’t gauge properly haha. Thoughts?

      Hi Clara,

Where do you live? They sell Patons Grace on Joann.com, but not sure if they ship internationally. A mercerized sport weight cotton would be ideal for this top if you can find that. The mercerized cotton gives the top structure which a different fiber might not. A 4mm needle is a lot bigger that 3.5mm and could definitely be the reason the top turned out too big! It is really important that you the get the exact gauge (in this case 22 sts and 32 rows = 4″ in Stockinette Stitch, so 5.5 sts/inch and 8 rows/inch), otherwise your top will turn out completely different than intended! Hope that’s helpful!

I purchased the “Your Time to Shine” hat pattern and the Lion Brand Amazing yarn. I’m just checking to be sure that I only need one strand of this yarn as it seems very fine for a hat.

Hey Juli! That’s awesome! For ribbing I usually use a long tail cast on. It’s nice and stretchy 🙂 Hope you enjoy the pattern, can’t wait to see how it turns out! -Lauren

I signed up for the newsletter and then went on to order the free top pattern. It never prompted me for the coupon code but did prompt for paypal. I figured it would show up on the payment screen but instead, it processed… Help?!?

Hi Lauren, I’m interested in purchasing your machine knit joggers pattern today. My question is I have a Brother KH710 which is a standard 4.5 guage. Do you have a pattern for the standard guage? Thanks Tracy

Hi Tracy! Unfortunately not at this time – I hope to adapt it when I get a standard gauge machine. It has a lot of shaping so it’s a bit tricky to convert without testing it out. Will keep you posted if and when I do convert it! Thanks, Lauren

I’m almost done with the free bra top pattern and I love how easy it is to follow, I plan on making another one for my daughter and niece soon! It’s very well written for beginners. I’m looking at your patterns for sale and I’d love to try one of those but I’m worried I won’t be able to. Are those easy to follow as well? Or any I shouldn’t try yet as a beginner? Thank you!
